Nelson, B.C.

A new travel adventure is about to begin!

We know that you are waiting with anticipation for a description of some exotic locale that has captured our fancy.  To ease the suspense, we are going to Ireland on Sunday. Ah, you think, not very exotic so they are probably going to travel around the country by camel, or something.

Sorry. Not on a camel, not on a motorcycle, not in a 4X4 campervan but on a BUS TOUR!

Wow, they must really be getting old you are thinking. . .

We will not deny that old age is creeping up, but to travel by motorcycle on the left side of the road in the cold, foggy rain does not appeal to us and actually never did. So we opted for a warm motor coach, hopefully with an entertaining tour guide and fellow tour participants who are punctual and tending toward sobriety.

The 9 day tour begins and ends in Dublin, travelling in a counter-clockwise direction through the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. We will travel the Dingle peninsula and the Ring of Kerry. We will marvel at the Giant’s Causeway and the Blarney Stone. We will go to a medieval banquet and will attend an evening of traditional Irish folk music. In short, we will do the things tourists do in Ireland.

But, as always, we hope to gain an increased knowledge of the country and its people beyond the tourist sites. This trip has been on our list for a while. Norma will be interested in comparing Ireland with her travels in Scotland. Doug will be interested in seeing Northern Ireland, the origin of his McBride surname and ancestry.

As usual, we hope to post an entry to this travel blog on a regular basis, ideally each evening. So feel free to join us in the Emerald Isle!
