Split, Croatia

 Last night we attended a Las Vegas show headlined by our Cruise Director, Ernest Marchain. He put on an excellent performance of Las Vegas style songs (Tom Jones and the like). Lots of talent on this ship. During one of his Tom Jones songs he came over and took Norma's hand and sang to her saying  "guess you thought you'd avoid this sitting back a ways".

This morning we arrived in Split around 8 am. We remember this port having landed here from the Island of Hvar in 2017. We spent the majority of the day on an excursion to  Krka National Park. The park is typified by water filled sinkholes and connecting waterfalls typical of the karst topography of the area. The areas of interest were connected by boardwalks. Wait a minute! This is almost identical to Plitvice Park a bit further north that we visited in 2017. . .

Tour guide

The trip to the park was marred by a bus engine failure leaving us stranded on the margin of a freeway for one hour until another bus could be found. It was also a very hot day with everyone fading quickly in the bus (too dangerous and hot to go outside). The tour guide kept apologizing but not much she could to about either of the problems, the heat or the break down. The walk around the park was very hot as well (33C with humidity). 

Millstone

In the 19th century millstones were used to grind the grain. They were powered by the waterfalls in the park. A restoration has been completed so we can see how this worked.
