Our 2009 tour will commence on or about April 22nd. After having the motorcycle serviced in San Diego we will set out for Central America. How far we get will be determined by a time constraint of needing to be back in B.C. on May 21st for work-related meetings. During the next few months we will be gathering as much information as we can about our proposed route and trying to learn a little Spanish (we are considering purchasing an electronic dictionary). Our usual CAMPING-motel regimen will be replaced with a MOTEL-HOTEL regimen for this trip. In the meantime we will try to increase our fitness level (X-country skiing works!) in preparation for our next Raindancer Adventure. If anyone stumbles across this blog and has some suggestions about Central American touring - please share.

Our 2008 tour lasted four weeks and covered 10,200 km. Our object was to ride every paved highway in Alaska (at least those we could access). Although we probably fell a bit short of our goal we made up for it by riding the unpaved portions of the Alcan. The weather was for the most part "Alaskan" (as we kept telling ourselves: "we are not here for the weather"). This resulted in the conversion of our CAMPING-motel tour to a MOTEL-camping tour. In some places we had the drizzlies and the grizzlies!

Although Raindancer is hibernating on this cold December evening with his battery tender keeping him warm, perhaps he is dreaming (as are we) of warmer climes and our spring adventure to Central America. Last summer's tour (our third long distance ride) found us travelling to Alaska, a sequel to our 2005 ride to the Maritime provinces and our 2007 ride to the Florida Keys.
