Sailing to Italy

Our sail out of the Bay of Kotor yesterday was  a literal obstacle course of pleasure boats and the like for our 2200 passenger cruise ship.

Another ferry for our big ship to avoid

We did not see any dolphins on the way out (Norma saw some on the way in) but we did remark on how Montenegrins like their beach activity as the bay was lined with well occupied developed and undeveloped beaches.

Beachgoers

More beachgoers

Today we slowly sailed around the toe of Italy, passing through the Strait of Messina through the supper hour. Consequently we missed the view of the passage as we had booked in the formal dining room for dinner. As we got back to the room we took a picture of the retreating strait and Sicilian mountains, one of which is Mt. Etna, the active volcano.

Aft view as we sail away from Messina and Etna

Tonight we have an overnight sail to Salerno, the staging point for visits to Pompeii.
